St. Joseph’s Catholic Preschool

St Joseph’s Preschool is a fun, caring, friendly and nurturing environment for children aged 2-4 years old. We are open term time from 7.30am to 3.15pm (a local after school club is also available). We offer flexible sessions, flexible Nursery Education Funding and payments made through the government Tax Free Childcare system.

All staff are committed to providing a warm, caring environment in which children are happy and achieve their full potential. All staff are qualified and experienced in Early Years and First Aid trained.

We offer high quality Early Years Education where children can play and explore both in our indoor and outdoor environments. We also visit our Little Leaves site each week. This enables the children to explore the outdoors all year round and learn about the importance of nature and the natural world.

Children thrive best when they are happy, secure and follow a routine. We operate a key person system, hold parents’ meetings and use Tapestry, an online Learning Journal, for you to follow your child’s progress.

Acorn Room

Our Acorn Room was opened in September 2022 and is for our two-year old children. It is a safe, secure and nurturing environment where the children build confidence, start to form friendships and develop language skills. The children can explore both the indoor and outdoor environments, our outdoor area has a wet pour safety surface and equipment to develop gross motor skills.

Oak Room

Our Oak Room is for our three and four-year-old children and is a large space for children to play and engage in adult led and child-initiated activities which ensure that children’s individual development needs are met. Activities are carefully planned to build confidence, resilience and self-esteem and enables the children to fulfil their potential.

Learning through play

We believe that children develop and learn best through play.  We provide our children with a combination of child and adult initiated activities in a safe and secure environment.  Children can progress and learn in their own individual way, providing strong foundations for their learning and development.

We offer a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities to help children develop through the Early Years Foundation stage. We provide a safe, secure and enabling environment in which the children can develop as individuals. We use the school facilities and extensive grounds and have the opportunity to be involved in school activities and events. We have a regular PE session using the school hall and Little Leaves sessions which enable the children to use the Forest School Site to explore the outdoor environment. Circle time helps to develop listening and communication skills.

The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.  Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

These prime areas are essential for your child's healthy development and future learning:

  • Communication and language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, social and emotional development

As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.  These are:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the world; and

  • Expressive arts and design

We use these 7 areas to plan your child's learning and activities

Quotes from parents

"Just wanted to say a big thank you for everything you have done for Sebastian and for the guidance and support you have given. You're all warm-hearted, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Sebastian has truly had the best time getting involved in activities you work hard organising and along the way he has grown into a confident little boy"

"To The Wonderful Preschool Team, We just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work over the past two years. We have really seen Lee shine since starting preschool with you and he has grown in so many ways. Thank you all again for your love, kindness and care. We are very grateful to you all and couldn't have asked for a better group of people to guide and support out child through his early stages. You will be very much missed."
